Wordless Wednesday: Frightened about my dog and the fireworks.

This Wednesday I fear for the dogs whose human companions don't work hard towards taking care of them during the fireworks.

July Is Pet Safety Month at BlogPaws: Safe Travel Tips For Fourth Of July... And Year 'Round

What may be beautiful and sound good to you is often the most frightening experience your dog goes through on a "regular" day.

Every year we are upset at the illegal fireworks that are set off right around our house here at the beach. We get so upset that we are the first people to start sedating their dog (our vet says that there are many that sedate soon before the 4th but we feel like we're alone in this).  This year we started sedating on Friday night, June 29th, 2013 because they get started here in the neighborhood more and more each year.  We have our yearly solution to the fireworks, come
back here on Tuesday, July 9th to read all about it!!

It is so sad when humans don't work harder to care for their more noise sensitive companions. It sickens me that people still bring dogs to fireworks displays and when I think of the many pets that likely suffer when left alone at home with no comforts my heart aches. Looking forward to reading your tips.

I used to have a roommate who had a dog. The poor thing was really spooked when there were fireworks. Having not grown up with one, the reaction surprised me. I hope your dog will make it through OK!

I know what you are talking about. My poor baby dog hates loud noises: thunder and fireworks especially. We are currently using a Thundershirt and made her her own little "cave" where she can go and feel secure. Good luck this year with the fireworks! Happy 4th Of July!

I understand about the the fireworks. My poor baby dog is terrified of thunder and fireworks - loud noises in general. We are currently using a Thundershirt and made her a little "cave" (box with lots of blankets and darkened) so she has a place to go when it gets too noisy. Happy 4th Of July!

I love fireworks, unless they're shot off in the street outside my house. Our dog was inside with us when the chaos began last year, but by the end of the night it was me who needed sedation! Your point is well taken, though. We leave our puppy in the house several nights a year, including Halloween and July 4th. Good reminder!

We also use an Anxiety Wrap, and our Sandie has her own little cave in the bedroom closet where she can hide.
