Have you gotten your flu shot?  Don't be one of those people who "claim" that they get the flu from the flu shot because that is just not true!

Flu outbreak: Why are so many not getting vaccinated?
The CDC recommends everyone who is over the age of 6 months get a flu vaccine.  The people most at risk for developing complications from the flu include people over the age of 65, pregnant women, and those with asthma, emphysema and chronic lung disease. However, the majority of Americans do not get the flu shot each year – with only 46 percent getting the vaccine by the end of March 2012.  And, the success rates are fairly positive –  flu shots were shown to be 67 percent effective in preventing the flu.

So why do so many people skip getting the vaccine?  According to one doctor, people do not actively reject the vaccine.  Instead they are merely unsure of whether or not they really need it.

Myths vs. facts
“There’s a growing problem called ‘vaccine hesitancy,’” Dr. Frank Esper, a viral respiratory disease expert at UH Case Medical Center in Ohio, told FoxNews.com.  “They’re not truly against getting the shot.  But, with all these people online saying, ‘Watch out for this, be careful about that,’ – they’re hesitant to receive the flu vaccine, and then they never get it done.”

According to Esper, with numerous websites, blogs, and podcasts perpetuating false information about the flu vaccine online, it’s easy for people to doubt the vaccine’s safety or believe it was not tested accurately.  Many fear the vaccine will cause adverse side effects, which is an unrealistic fear, Esper said.

“There were certain vaccines in the past that did cause problems,” Esper said, alluding to a 1976 vaccine that caused Guillian-Barre syndrome (a neurologic disorder) in a small amount of people.

“It happens once, and people start saying how the [vaccine can cause severe problems].  But all these vaccines that we are producing in the U.S have been tested for this problem, and all sorts of other problems and have been well proven to be safe and effective,” Esper added.

Apart from the hesitancy surrounding the flu vaccine, there are also a number of propagated myths associated with the shot.

The biggest one: You can get the flu from getting the flu shot.
Because the flu vaccine is developed utilizing parts of the influenza virus, many people believe the virus in the vaccine can ultimately make them sick. But Esper laid that myth to rest.

“The flu shot has absolutely no live virus in there,” Esper said.  “It’s a bunch of pieces and parts.  Think of it as if I take the flu, chop it up into little bits and put those bits into the shot.  You cannot get the flu from the shot because it doesn’t contain all the parts of the flu virus.”

To emphasize his point, Esper noted a person cannot get the flu from the flu shot, “no more than you can get three tires and a carburetor and drive a car.”

However, just because a person does get the flu vaccine doesn’t mean he or she won’t still get sick.  However, many people can mistake flu-like symptoms for the flu virus.  Esper noted there are many different viruses capable of causing disease, so people shouldn’t necessarily assume that if they are sneezing and coughing, they caught the flu virus.

Another myth people have is they think they cannot get the flu.  People who haven’t had the flu in years’ past think they are somehow immune to the virus – a mind set that is potentially unsafe for not only themselves, but others around them.
“The answer to that is, ‘Well you may not have gotten sickly,’” Esper said. “Just like the flu can cause really bad disease, you can actually just have a little bit of a runny nose and nothing else – and that’s still the flu.  It’s still something you caught and you can spread to others.”

Some key things to know about the flu season:

THE SITUATION: The annual flu season hit about a month early this year, and illness is now widespread in 47 states. Many cases are caused by a flu strain that tends to make people sicker. But so far experts say it's too early to know whether this will end up being a bad season. Maybe not: There are signs the flu may have already peaked in a few states, though it's too early to tell for sure, health officials say.
THE VACCINE: This season's vaccine is well matched to the circulating strains, and there's still some available. It is 62 percent effective, according to government study results released Friday, which is pretty good for a flu vaccine. Health officials are urging people to get vaccinated; it's recommended for everyone 6 months or older.
THE DEFENSE: Besides getting a flu shot, wash hands with soap and warm water, and avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Keep away from sick people.
THE TREATMENT: Most people will get a mild case and can help themselves and protect others by staying home and resting. But people with severe symptoms should see a doctor. They may be given antiviral drugs or other medications to ease symptoms.

COLD OR FLU?: Influenza is not the only bug making people sick. The cold virus and a nasty stomach virus are also going around. It can sometimes be hard to tell the difference, but cold symptoms include stuffy or runny nose, sore throat and sneezing. Flu usually involves fever, along with chills, headache and moderate-to-severe body aches and tiredness. Symptoms can come on rapidly, within three to six hours.

Facebook:

Sniffly, stuffy, sneezy and achy and want someone to blame, just to make yourself feel mildly better? There’s now an app for that.
“Help, I Have the Flu” is a new Facebook app that trolls through friends’ profiles looking for keywords such as ‘sneezing,’ ‘coughing,’ and ‘vomiting’ as well as check-ins to find the culprit who may have passed on the virus.

“Hello. I’m sorry you have the flu,” reads the app. “Nothing will make you feel better like finding somebody to blame.”

Clicking on the “Who Made Me Sick” button on the Facebook page will track down prime suspects, such as those who’ve mentioned the word ‘flu’ in their status updates or those who’ve had multiple late night posts, as sleep deprivation, the app reasons, puts people at increased risk for catching a cold.

The app also allows users to send a message to the offending virus-spreader or purchase remedies from the healthcare company that runs the app, Help Remedies in the US.
Meanwhile, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also has an app that tracks flu activity reports in the US through podcasts and feeds, while the Flu Defender provides handy tips on how to protect yourself this season.

SIMPLEOLOGY ... what is so simple? Anyone have a dollar?

I've Joined SIMPLEOLOGY and am QUITTING!

http://www.simpleology.com/blog/
THEIR OPINION of themself!
I'm starting to see a pattern...
http://trustedhomebusinessreviews.com/internet-marketing-reviews/simpleology-com-reviews-is-simpleology-com-a-scam/

Is Simpleology a Scam?

Authored by Stacy Lewis (more by Stacy)
Simpleology.com Reviews | Is Simpleology.com a Scam?

What is Simpleology.com?

Simpleology.com claims to have been featured in The Wall Street Journal. In order to see more of the website you are required to create a seemingly free membership account; of which they say will give you access to Simpleology software, Simpleology 101, and “sanity”.

How does Simpleology work?

Once you sign up as a member on Simpleology.com you are brought to a page that discusses two drug free “body hacks”. The first “hack” is to chew your food 30 times before swallowing. By doing this they claim that you can help gain nutritional value from your food and help you conserve energy. Simpleology 103 is one of the systems that this website offers and it is said to teach the multiple ways energy is leaving your body and how quickly you can regain it.

What does it cost?

Simpleology.com offers the membership to their site and some of their services and products for free, but it has others that do cost money.
For example, their Simpleology 103, The Simple Science of Personal Energy system, costs $47.00. However, the site also claims that you get five free bonuses including:
• How I Lost One Pound of Fat a Day
• Little Known Drug-Free Way to Stop Hair Loss
• Cleaning: Miracle Cure? OR Wacky Snake Oil
• Case Closed! The Real Truth About Atkins Revealed
• High Tech Meditation on the Cheap
Important! If you're ready for success, and you're looking for an honest, ethical, and legitimate way to make money online, then I STRONGLY recommend you <their sales pitch, lol>

The site also offers you Simpleology 102, The Simple Science of Money, which costs $97.00. Once you are charged the $97.00 fee, you are said to have a 60 day money back guarantee that seems to allow you to get your money back if you’re not satisfied with the system.

Simpleology.com in Review

Simpleology.com is a website that appears to be committed to teaching you ways to make your life better. It has systems that range from claiming to help make you healthier, and stay like that, to ways to make money continuously. The site seems to provide you with services such as “Daily Target Praxis”, “Dream Catcher”, “Daily Targets”, “Mental Lock Box”, and others. These services are said to help you stay focused and on track in your quest to succeed in life, whether it is monetary success or just creating a better lifestyle for yourself.
Do you have any experience with Simpleology.com? If you do, please write about it below and let us know how it worked for you!

And from a gal who took the course:

Type: online course
Cost: free
Web site: www.simpleology.com
Purpose: to teach you “the simple science of getting what you want”.
Author: Mark Joyner
What you get:
The nice thing about this course is that you do get a lot for free. As soon as you sign up, you get access to a PowerPoint video presentation, an e-book, worksheets, mp3 files, daily emails, and access to a forum.
Note: the video, the book and the mp3 files are exactly the same. They just provide the information in a different format.
You get this course for free because he hopes that once you do the first one you will continue on to Simpleology II and Simpleology III. Cost for those is $101 each. Along with the daily emails, you will also get opportunities to listen to various conference calls he sets up with “experts”. He also usually has the calls available on his site afterwards if you aren’t able to listen to it live. They’re about an hour long. The thing I’ve found about the ones I've happened to listen to is that he tends to talk more than his guest. But, I think you're supposed to be encouraged to buy the guest products.
What I liked:
It is a very simple concept which is basically to figure out what you want, start working towards it and don’t get distracted along the way. He breaks it down into simple concepts so you can truly understand why it’s so important to know what you want, be specific in the steps you take, and to focus on your goals.
What I didn’t like:
He doesn’t explain enough on how to use his dashboard and his other worksheets. The course tells you that they’re explained in more detail in the future Simpleology courses. It basically just says, use them. He’s broken it down into 36 days (18 lessons done twice). I didn’t get past Day 9 of the daily work but I did read the entire book. They’re very short lessons and I would have preferred longer lessons, less days. I understand why he did it this way (to get you in the habit of doing it every day) but it didn’t work for me. As with anything, some things work for some people but not others. He has amazing testimonials on his site from people that claim it has changed their life. I really wanted this to work for me and I may go back and try it again but so far it hasn't been effective for me.
Recommended:
Yes, it’s free and you do get a lot. It’s a good reminder of how we should focus on our goals and then work towards them. Just be aware that getting it for free means you’ll have to be “strong” against the sales pitches.

Simpleology Coaching Sold Out - What To Do Now

As expected, it didn't take very long for Mark and Simpleology to attract the 1,000 first recruits into the Business Coaching program.

I received this email from Mark Joyner

"Just a quick note to let you know that the Simpleology Business Coaching program is now sold out.

We'll open it up again as soon as we have fully trained a new team of coaches to guide new clients.

Since you're on this waiting list, you'll be the first to know.

All the best,

Mark Joyner"

What To Do If You Missed Simpleology Business Coaching

First get yourself on the email list at

Simpleology Business Coaching

Second, I think you should start to become familiar with the work of Mark Joyner and Simpleology.

The place I recommend people start is with his terrific book, The Irresistible Offer which shakes up what a lot of people think about marketing.

The Irresistible Offer by Mark Joyner

This is available as a free ebook but also comes with an upsell to an excellent multimedia.
course. Marketing is at the centre of business so what you learn with this book or course will be great preparation for Simpleology Business Coaching.

Third, I recommend that you start the free Simpleology 101 time management course which you can access through the Simpleology account you opened with the Irresistible Offer. Again learning how to improve the way you use your time, energy and money will be important in the coaching program.

Simpleology time management

You will be offered an upsell to Simpleology 102 but I should tell you that this is one of coaching bonuses offered - it is your choice whether you pay to get the training early or leave it until you join the Simpleology Business Coaching program when it re-opens.

Going To Another Business Coaching Firm

If you really need business coaching now, then you may have to find another business coaching firm but the Simpleology offer was extremely competitive. One-to-one coaching will be much more expensive.

The two Simpleology resources - The Irresistible Offer and Simpleology 101 - which cover marketing and your own self management will certainly help and may been you can wait until the Simpleology Business Coaching program re-opens.

The $1 trial offer will have tempted some who just want to grab what they can so there may be a limited re-opening in about six weeks time if 200 or 300 of the 1,000 don't carry on with the coaching program.

Make sure that you are on the Simpleology email list and in particular on the Simpleology Business Coaching list.

You may also be interested to see my own Business Coaching Blog      <his....going to look into this...  and maybe someone who wants to give me a Dollar I will review Simple-yes-ology-the study of ....  so the study of not being so simple! lol>

Parents... it's time to talk about it!

Today, Dr. Amador is sharing some very important and serious information about how we should talk to our children about tragedies, like the one at Newtown Elementary. Read his words and let me know how you can apply his advice within your family.
je8eZJ3ItzzJr5gRROVtIjbd.jpeg:Amazon:photo
By Saturday afternoon, the day after the horrific shootings at Newtown Elementary School, my children hadn’t asked me any questions about what happened. I knew that by Monday, whether their school chose to address what happened or not, they would hear about it from their classmates. So I asked if they heard “what happened to those children?” Both immediately said yes (one is in 3rd grade the other in 8th). Did they have any questions? They had only a few, but I heard the anxiety in the tone of the questions my youngest asked. I focused on two things first: The chance of this happening to anyone is lower than being killed by a lightening strike (Look it up, it’s true)—you’re safe, your school, friends and family are all safe from being hurt in this way.

How to Talk to Your Kids About the TragedyMost harm occurs long after the event. For some time to come our children will need our help to keep them safe psychologically and emotionally from the aftermath of that tragic day. The natural fears, depression and doubts that arise from incidents like this will not necessarily surface in obvious ways. And how we adults respond to them can make a big difference for our children—so I am sharing some lessons I’ve learned from previous school shootings and my clinical practice (I suggest you follow some of the advice I give below for yourself as well for your child):
  • If your child or children haven’t asked, don’t push but do ask if they heard about it (trust me they now know about it if they go to school, use the internet or watch TV).
  • Usually, not always, your child will let you know when he or she’s ready to talk.
  • If they mention it, ask what they know about what happened and if they have any questions.
  • What should you say? If you’re scared this is likely to happen to your child—please get a grip! Don’t say anything yet…
  • Wait to talk until you have dealt with your more irrational (though understandable) fears. Round the clock news coverage of an exceedingly rare event doesn’t mean the thing happens every day! Check my math about being killed by lightening. Do you arm your kids with portable lightening rods? (If you’re old enough, you remember the around the clock coverage of Princess Diana’s death and more recent anniversary media blitz coverage of that tragic car wreck in Paris. And yet, despite so much news, how many popular princesses have been killed in car accidents in the last twenty years? See my point now?)
  • Now that you are calmer yourself, answer your child’s questions simply, honestly, and directly (using age-appropriate language of course). Focus on safety and acknowledge the sadness they might be feeling. It’s not only scary, but also very sad.

Stop Retraumatizing
Even though the media coverage has slowed down a lot, when the stories appear turn off the TV, radio, and monitor web use to limit media exposure. Research shows that children who are exposed to significant amounts of media coverage are much more likely to suffer from traumatic stress symptoms. Seeing and hearing ongoing coverage is repetitively traumatic and harmful.
1XKVamO9fYDgoKFCTY3IiZTq.jpeg:Amazon:photo

Look for Warning SignsSome kids simply won’t talk about it. They will express their reactions differently. Be on the look out for anxiety or distress. In younger children you will see separation anxiety, disruptive behavior, sleeping difficulties, renewed bed-wetting and/or increased tantrums, more crying, etc. You may hear about more stomachaches, headaches and requests to stay home from school. Older kids may exhibit increased moodiness or irritability.

These warning signs can crop up months afterwards. What triggers these reactions isn’t the shooting itself—it’s what’s going on between your child’s ears and in his or her heart: thinking about it, worrying, having fleeting feelings that school is not safe.

If you see these warning signs, don’t be afraid to ask questions like:
  • Have you been thinking about what happened at that school in Connecticut?
  • Do you feel safe at school?
  • Do you ever wonder about dying?

Stay AwareChildren are blessed with colorful imaginations that also can run wild creating terrifying scenarios. Just because they are not talking about it doesn’t mean they are not thinking about it and having horrific fantasies about what could happen to them and their loved ones. The stakes are high. Months and years of never having talked about the fears that may be taking root will cause unnecessary pain, fear and even symptoms of stress and post traumatic stress disorder (and depression). By uprooting those fearful thoughts, weeding the psychological garden of your child’s growing mind, you can give him a more balanced personal understanding of what the Newtown tragedy means. It’s a time for compassion, sadness, coming together, and conversation.
WgWvavJI74jqxWYOi1vCk42c.jpeg:Amazon:photo

To Summarize…Don’t shove conversations down your child’s throat, but instead listen to what they say and what they are not saying—listen and look for the warning signs above. Validate your child’s feelings “I can see why you feel so scared” while gently and repeatedly reassuring them “You’re safe, our family is safe and so are your friends and teachers. We are all working very hard to make sure we stay safe.”

One final thing: help your child mourn the dead. Many children are empathizing with the children who were killed and with their families. If you say prayers as a family, be sure to include those children in your prayers together. If your child is still sad, suggest writing a letter together to the parents and siblings of one of the children who died. And be sure to put something positive about that child’s life in the letter.

Have you talked to your kids about what happened at Newtown Elementry?

New blogger comments, after using my special Blogging for Dollars method...

Hi Angela - When I left my job to have my baby, I knew I had to go back to work if I couldn't find a way to make money at home. I bought your blogging and coaching package. Now I've been blogging for four months - and I'm making MORE than I made at my old job. I mainly monetize via affiliate sales on my "after baby weight loss" blog, but I'm getting some paid reviews, and I've just signed a pro blogging contract for $700 a week. Thank you!
Emily J. USA

I wanted some part-time work to pay off credit card debt. My blog's about - yes, paying off credit card debt. After six months, I've just sold the blog. It was making great money - but I paid off my debts. I'm really interested in yoga teaching, so I've started a yoga blog, which is doing great. Plus I have three more blogs, that I want to keep for three months, and then sell. I love blogging. Here's the big news: I quit my job. Blogging is now my career. Thank you Angela for all your help.
Vimla L. UK

I bought the blog ebook and I was desperate because I lost my job. In this area, it's hard to find work. I didn't know what to start a blog about. When I contacted you, Julia sent me a list of questions to answer. So I did, and she helped me to decide on a car blog. You won't believe what happened. I'm blogging for _________ which is a popular blog, and I'm making more than I made at my job. Thanks Angela, and Julia. You saved my life.

BLOG EVERDAY!   Don't be lazy!  There's always something to blog about!  Your life is interesting and the world is full of wonderful things to share.  (my tip for the day!)

Blogging is the easiest and quickest avenue for non–coders to get their message online. Most blog services are even free for casual or non–demanding professional uses.
Individuals and companies publish blogs for a variety of reasons; some blogs are launched for marketing purposes, others are posted just for fun.
Here are a few things you can do with a personal or professional blog:
Personal Blogs:
  • Journal – Most sites support private blogs that can be used as a journal or public blogs for sharing. Some bloggers use weblogs to publish their travelogue, personal thoughts or daily events.
  • Special Interest – Write on your favorite hobby or subject. Share tips on cooking, photography, gaming or other hobby. Or write on your favorite topic, you can write on any subject from Victorian Literature to Fur Balls, there are no boundaries.
  • Family Blog – Most Blog services let you set up multiple users with passwords, so you could start a family blog. Family members can login and add posts and images to share with the rest of the family.
Professional Blogs:
  • Product Promotion – Many individuals and companies use blogs for free marketing. Posts can be created as product reviews, articles, news or whatever. You can also link your blog to your corporate or sales sites.
  • Customer Education – Blogs can be used to inform customers. A corporate blog can contain product news, tips, company news, articles and more to educate customers or shareholders about products, services or corporate happenings.
  • News and Information – Numerous blogs are used to relate current events. Some bloggers publish national news and commentary; others use blogs to cover local events.
In this site, you’ll find articles related to Blogging, as well as comprehensive reviews and a side–by–side comparison to help you make an informed decision on which Blog Service is right for you. At TopTenREVIEWS We Do the Research So You Don’t Have To.™

What to Look for in a Blog Service

Blogging can be a highly personal endeavor, so you will want to look for a blog site that suites your needs. Some blog tools are tied into personal pages whereas others are integrated with social networking.
On the other hand, other blog services are intended for professional use and include the ability to customize templates, monitor visitors and track referrers.
So when looking for a blog service, pick one that offers you the kind of exposure you want and complements your level of expertise.
Below are the criteria TopTenREVIEWS used to evaluate Blog Services:
Blog Design Tools
The top blog sites offer an assortment of templates and tools to customize blog entries, including the capability to add photos and sidebar links. Services ought to offer tools for experienced coders as well as non–coders, such as the ability to compose posts in code or through a text editor.
Promotion/ Tracking Tools
A number of sites host their own blog site with a directory, other blogging services facilitate blog design and submit your blog to several directories. A few also offer tools to help you track visitors, referrers and comments.
Ease of Use
Frequently blogs are composed and posted by those that do not code, so it is necessary that the service be simple enough for all levels of expertise.
Technical Help/Support
Since many blogging sites are free, technical support is principally limited to online documentation like FAQs and a searchable knowledge-base. However, the best sites also post tutorials and a weblog that covers help topics.
For the easiest to use, free blog service we could find, see WordPress.com. Or if you are interested in working with code, see Blogger.

"10 Interesting Blog Trends"  by Pamela S. Stevens

While researching Blog services we stumbled across some interesting and some not so interesting blogs. A number of people write about dull topics like the social life of their dust bunnies, whereas others write about controversial or motivating topics that inspire empathy and action.
Blogs are an outlet and a stimulator, and unlike many publishing sources, blogs are equally available to everyone. So no matter how uncommon, unique or trivial the topic is, it can be shared.
Here are 10 interesting trends we have noticed in the Blogosphere:
  1. Informative Blogs:We commend the time it must take to research and write informative blogs. Some cover topics in history or current events; others relate detailed information on hobbies, techniques or procedures.
  2. Creative Rants:Rants are posted everywhere and we understand that it must feel good to get the frustration out. But some bloggers have made the extra effort to make their rants entertaining, informative and even funny.
  3. Company Weblogs:Companies are beginning to see the benefit of projecting a more “human” or “approachable” image and are publishing blogs. We have seen some blogs that do a good job at educating customers about products or even frustrations and accomplishments involved in developing a new product.
  4. Personal Accounts:Often news broadcasters/ publishers do not have the time or space to relate the whole story. Some writers are taking it upon themselves to document the daily details of an event, like a political race or a natural disaster. This has added a ground level, human voice to pivotal events.
  5. Cultural Introspectives:Some people are using their blogs to help others understand their culture, history and social views, in hope that understanding will inspire improved global relations and altruistic action.
  6. Pioneering Ideas:Many blogs start a buzz or promote original ideas before they are realized or marketed to the general public. Since most blogs are not motivated by monetary goals they are free avenues of discussion of innovative or alternative thought.
  7. Niche Notching:Blogs are cheap or free and readily available, so even blogs that cover obscure or unique topics find readers. No matter what your interest is, you can find a blog on that topic.
  8. Family Blogs:Staying in touch is hard and there are always schedule conflicts. Some families use a blog to share family news and pictures and the blog is available to the entire family anytime of day.
  9. Creative Writing:Getting published is hard; publishing a book takes a long time and comes with challenges. Some writers are skipping the traditional publishing route and just writing. Blogs can get a writers work out to the world in a hassle free manner. We found many well–composed and thoughtful posts originated by talented writers.
  10. Travel Blogs:We discovered interesting travel accounts. Some bloggers write about vacationing, others about their tour of service or their research and humanitarian efforts in an impoverished or developing country.
Blogs can inspire, inform or incite. They can be used to document the smallest detail of one life or the largest, most urgent issues of the entire human race. No matter the topic or the writer this avenue of self expression is open to everyone.

Oh!  You can contact me here if you would like me to do something for you!  But catch me in March, 2013 unless it's something that you need right away!  :)
