Recipe pick of the Day! Garlic Cheesy Bread

Hasselback Garlic Cheesy Bread

Hasselback Bread Final 2

This bread is the bomb.
Last week, I got some evil Kerrygold Samples in the mail. Basically, it was a box filled with cheese and butter.
Aw, shucks.
What is a girl to do?

To prevent myself from inhaling it all in a 24 hour period, I put some in the freezer, but then immediately thought of this bread I’ve been wanting to make. Everyone has seen the Hasselback Potato, right? Well this is a much more scandalous take on that. Think MORE butter, MORE garlic and MORE cheese. Carbs are my friend, can you tell?
They hang out in my booty.

{TMI? Sorry.}

This bread is the very reason why I run. It helps lessen the blow to the whole ‘carbs setting up shop in my hiney’ thing.
And believe it or not, this is super simple to make! I think its safe to say we all have the ingredients for bread in our pantries. Butter-most likely and cheese-uh, yeah! I seem to have these ingredients on hand all.the.time. I used garlic herb butter from Kerrygold and I’ve seen pre-made garlic butter at the store, but it’s really easy to make at home. {Mix butter and finely minced garlic together. Yup, that’s it.}
So, that’s all the info you need to know, m’kay? Let’s make some bread, yo.

Bread Ingredients  First thing you’re going to want to do is grab all your ingredients. Nothing to out of the ordinary here.

Bread 1  Into a mixer bowl, add in your water, yeast and honey. Stir it all in and leave it alone for 5-10 minutes. You want to make sure your yeast is alive and kickin’.

Bread 2  Once your yeast has gotten foamy, stir in the salt and the flour in 1/4 cup increments. PS-You never want to go above level 2 {stir} when using a Kitchenaid Mixer. I just just read that in the instructions manual. Making dough=slow speed.

Bread 3 Once the dough starts pulling away from the sides and the bowl is looking pretty clean, then it’s time to set the timer and walk away. 5 minutes later your dough should be tacky and smooth. Like, it should feel a little sticky, but leave nothing on your fingers when you poke at it. Grease your bowl and dough. Cover the whole thing with a towel or plastic wrap and let it rise for an hour or until it’s doubled in size.

Bread 4 One hour later, I got me some purdy lookin’ dough!

Bread 5 Punch that dough down and divide into two equal balls.

Bread 6 Roll those dough balls into two baguette shapes the length of your baking sheet. I like to twist mine because {1}they look cool and {2}it helps keep them from shrinking.

Bread 7 Cover with plastic wrap and let it rise for 30 minutes. Then preheat your oven to 400 degrees and place the pan nearby to get all that extra warmth seeping from your oven.

Bread 8 They should have doubled by the time the oven is preheated {about 45 minutes later}. Reduce the oven temp to 350 and bake for 20 minutes.

Bread 9 In the mean time, grab some of your garlic herb butter…

Bread 10 And melt it down. It’s so much faster working with melted butter.

Bread 11 You’re gonna want to slice some cheese too. I used a sharp white cheddar. OH yeah.

Bread 12 After 20 minutes, your french loaves should start to golden. Take them out of the oven and brush with some melted butter. Bake another 5-7 minutes or until perfectly golden. Remove from oven and cool 15 minutes. Now, we could stop here and have two lovely french loaves of bread but I’m insane and must add butter and cheese. So, lets keep going!

Bread 13 Slice your bread into 1 inch slices 3/4 of the way down. It’s important to let your bread cool at least 15 minutes so that when you cut it it doesn’t squash the loaf right down. Make sure you use a bread knife too! *Important*

Bread 14 Once your bread is sliced, take that garlic butter and slather it on top and in between all those cracks. Be generous!

Bread 15 Then put your slices of cheese into those cracks and bake it another 5 minutes or until all that cheese is melted.

Hasselback Bread Final 1 Hello, lover.

Hasselback Bread Final 3 Come to mama.
See? Not too hard was it! Here’s the printable for ya’ll! Hope you enjoy! Try not to eat the entire thing in one sitting…or at least have the decency to change into stretchy pants first.

Hasselback Garlic Cheesy Bread

Yield: 2 loaves

Ingredients:

1 cup Warm Water
1 Tablespoon Honey
1 envelope Active Dry Yeast (2 1/4 Teaspoons)
1 teaspoon Salt
3 cups Bread Flour
Olive Oil, For Greasing Surfaces
⅓ pounds Sharp White Cheddar, Or Any Other Cheese You Prefer
½ cups Garlic Butter

Directions:

In a large bowl, stir water, honey and yeast together. Let yeast proof 5 minutes. Once you know yeast is active, stir in salt and the flour in 1/4 cup increments. If you are using a stand mixer, be sure to not increase your speed higher than a 2 or ‘stir’.

Once dough starts pulling away from the sides and the bowl seems to be pretty clean, set a timer for 5 minutes and walk away. Let the machine knead the dough. After 5 minutes, dough should be smooth and tacky but when touched shouldn’t leave any dough on your fingers.

Grease the bowl and the dough. Cover with plastic wrap or a kitchen towel and let rise 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Punch down dough and cut into two equal portions. Form into two long baguettes the length of the cookie sheet. I like to twist mine because it looks cool, but it also keeps its length and doesn’t shrink. Cover with plastic wrap and rise 30 minutes.

Start to preheat oven to 400 degrees F and place dough close to the oven where it’s nice and warm. Once oven is preheated, remove plastic wrap, from the dough reduce oven to 350F, put the bread into the oven and bake 20 minutes.
In the meantime, slice the cheese into thin slices and melt the butter.

Pull loaves of bread out of the oven after 20 minutes and brush with the melted garlic butter. Bake another 5-7 minutes or until bread begins to turn a golden brown. Remove from oven and cool 15 minutes.

Cut 1-inch slices 3/4′s of the the way through the loaves. Brush garlic butter in between each slice and fill with a slice of cheese. Bake another 3-5 minutes or until cheese is completely melted.
Serve immediately.

SHARED: FAT FLUSH WATER and a free DOWNLOAD of 30 recipes to go with it!

photo credit:  Internet search free photo

You’ve seen Fat Flush Water all over the web, but does it really get results?

Over 25 years ago, the Fat Flush diet concept was originally introduced in creator Ann Louise Gittleman’s first book Beyond Pritikin with the Two-Week Fat Flush. The complete plan is featured in the New York Times bestseller The Fat Flush Plan and the 4 other Fat Flush books that have followed.

While the Fat Flush diet plans have evolved over the years to incorporate the latest in slimming research, the main principle of detoxifying the liver to accelerate weight loss has always remained. A liver clogged with poisons, toxins and excess fats cannot perform its fat-burning duties. Freeing up the liver to do its job may be the single most important step you can take to reach your weight loss goals.

In the fat-burning process, drinking plenty of water is essential to keep you system flushed out and allow your liver and lymphatic system to function properly — we always recommend drinking half your body weight in ounces of water daily.
But, what about this “Fat Flush Water” — will it actually flush the fat?

Over the years, we’ve learned that with popularity comes imitation, and so we weren’t surprised to see a guest on Dr. Oz promoting a “new” Fat Flush Water. Since then, you’ve probably seen it on Pinterest or Twitter or maybe even a blog or two, and the pictures do look delicious and refreshing. It is a lovely way to add a nice citrusy flavor to your water, but does this “Fat Flush Water” live up to all the hype? Does it really flush fat?
First, let’s look at the ingredients — water with a sliced grapefruit, a sliced tangerine, ½ a cucumber and a few peppermint leaves floating in it.

These are healthy foods with qualities that can be helpful during weight loss — peppermint helps with digestion, grapefruit contains an antioxidant flavonoid that can increase insulin sensitivity, tangerines are a rich source of vitamin C which stimulates the liver’s premier antioxidant (glutathione), and cucumbers have diuretic properties.
However, infusing your water is giving you almost none of the benefits of simply eating these foods, and quite honestly, isn’t flushing the fat.

A Fat Flush Water that really makes cellulite vanish!
The good news is we do have a Fat Flush Water that really does flush out bloat and stubborn fat deposits. It works so well that we’ve heard from Fat Flushers who have lost as much as 6 to 7 lbs of backlogged water weight in the first day!

Our signature Fat Flush Cran-Water contains water mixed with pure unsweetened cranberry juice — how simple is that? You can mix it up in the morning and sip on it throughout the day — we recommend 64-ounces (eight 8-ounce glasses) daily.
Cranberry juice is a natural diuretic and packed with flavonoids, enzymes and organic acids such as malic acid, citric acid, and quinic acid which have an emulsifying effect on stubborn fat deposits in the lymphatic system. The lymphatic system — the body’s “garbage collector” — transports all kinds of waste products not processed by the liver. With the help of the organic acid components, cranberry juice digests stagnated lymphatic wastes. This explains why so many Fat Flushers report that their cellulite disappears!

Even if you’re not following a specific diet or trying to lost weight, you can sip this tart and refreshing beverage daily to help flush out water weight, balance blood sugar, improve cellulite and keep you liver and lymph in optimum cleansing mode.

Here’s the Fat Flush Cran-Water recipe -
Mix together:

1 ounce 100% pure unsweetened cranberry juice* 7 ounces water
To save time during the day, mix a full batch (64 ounces) in the morning — add 1 cup (8 oz) cranberry juice to a half-gallon container and fill the rest with water.

*Look for brands like Knudsen, Trader Joe’s, Mountain Sun, or Simple Truth available at your supermarket or health food store.
Enjoy – Let’s drink to flushing fat and busting bloat with our signature cranberry Fat Flush Water!

This water was featured on the “Biggest Loser”. There are many variations of it all simple, all delicious. Grapefruit has tons of vitamin C to help your body turn fat into fuel.

Tangerine increases your sensitivity to insulin, stabilizes blood sugar, and stimulates genes to burn fat.

Cucumber helps you feel full and acts as a natural diuretic, which means less bloating and water retention.
Peppermint promotes better digestion and stomach calm. Make a big pitcher (64oz) of Fat Flush Water at night, and drink the next day, throughout the day.
64 oz. purified Water
1/2 grapefruit sliced
1 tangerine
1 cucumber, sliced
4 peppermint leaves
Ice (made from purified water)

Combine all ingredients in a large pitcher. Make sure you are using organic so you can keep the skins on. The skins have super valuable nutrients and you do NOT want pesticides soaking in your water. Scrubbing does NOT remove pesticides which infiltrate the skins. It is important to clean your organic fruits and vegetables, to remove organic matter.  I have a vegetable/fruit  washer that I use religiously called Bio Kleen Produce Wash:

Dry Shampoo that you can make at home!

It's dry shampoo to the rescue ladies!  For the next week I will be focusing on beauty products that you can make at home.  Today is DRY SHAMPOO!   Every celebrity swears it’s what’s in their purse at all times. Just what is dry shampoo? It’s basically a product that takes the grease out of your hair on those days you missed the alarm and don’t have time to shower.

The crazy thing about all this dry shampoo business, is just how easy it is to make at home, with a few ingredients you probably already have in your pantry.

Here are the ingredients to make your own dry shampoo:
2 Tablespoons Cornstarch
2 Tablespoons Baking Soda
2 Tablespoons Cornmeal
2 Tablespoons Ground Oatmeal

A salt shaker type container to store dry shampoo for your purse and the rest can be kept in a mason jar in your bathroom

dry shampoo 300x254 Make your own dry shampoo

Step 1:
Grind up oatmeal in a blender. You want it to be fine enough to be able to go through a salt shaker, so give it some time in the blender.

dry shampooing 300x200 Make your own dry shampoo

Step 2:

Measure out 2 tablespoons each of: cornstarch, cornmeal, baking soda and the ground up oatmeal. Mix it all together in a bowl and you’ve got yourself some dry shampoo.

Step 3:
Pour your fancy new dry shampoo into a container. You want this to be something you can use over and over again, in the bathroom in your morning rush, so put it into a reusable salt shaker or something of the sort.

salt shaker 300x200 Make your own dry shampoo

Step 4:
Sprinkle some dry shampoo onto your hand. Or sprinkle it straight onto your scalp. This is your head, I’ll let you make the executive decisions here.

Step 5:
Shampoo.
dry shampoo for your hair 186x300 Make your own dry shampoo

Scrub your head like you would in the shower, all lathered up. This is where all the ingredients you’ve so carefully blended gather all the oils on the top of your head.

Step 6:
Now brush. Use a bristle brush or it won’t work properly. Again, do this over a sink or tub. Brush like you’ve got the wind at your back. You need to get all this stuff off your scalp, and hurry!
Not really, but you get the idea.

Step 7:
That’s it! You’re all dry shampooed. And even if you don’t smell like a million bucks, you sure look like it.
Style your hair like you normally would, and pat yourself on the back for the extra 15 minutes of sleep you managed to score. You’re smart like that.

BRUNETTES!

Ingredients for Dark Hair
2 T of Cornstarch or Arrowroot Powder
2 T of Baking Soda
2 T of Oatmeal
4 T +/- a little depending on your color of Cocoa Powder

I have very dark hair and found the 4T to not be enough to blend with my hair so I added more and now I have a nice small mason jar in the bathroom of this DIY (do it yourself) homemade dry shampoo!  I love it!   I ordered a peppermill from Target (inexpensive) and like that it can grind the products at the same time that I'm putting the dry shampoo on my hair.

PS.... I'm giving away dog and cat coupons for supermarket products to anyone who wants some.  That's my thanks for reading this entry!  Just post your email address so I can contact you for your address.  This is for two people so hurry.  First come, first served!

Cross your fingers for us for a potential new dog!

JRT (Jack Russell Terrier)

Fox Terrier

What do you get when you have a cross breed between a JRT (Jack Russell Terrier) with a Fox Terrier?  You get the perfect little boy dog that is up for adoption near us.

This is his story:  He is looking for a new home because his original caretakers (aka owners) moved and were going to take him to the pound.  (That is where we adopted our present dog, Sandie).  Fortunately he was taken in by a couple who didn't want to see him end up at the pound.  He is playful and affectionate.  He is energetic, alert and enjoys hiking.  He is trained and crate trained.  He is 4 years young!  He is current on his shots.

This is our current 11 year old dog, (who we call Puppy) and her name is Sandie and she's sitting between between John's legs (she loves her daddy and mommy!)  I took the picture!

Sandie (Sharpei mix)
We take Sandie with us to the rescue this Sat/Sun. to meet the little boy and then we hand in our application Sandie and he seem to get along and then we have a home check and then we will see what they think!

Have you ever adopted an animal from a shelter or rescue or pound?  If you did then you can probably identify with the above poem.  I know I can.   How do you feel about adopting vs. buying at a pet store?  Anything you'd like to share?  I'd love to hear your story (of your opinion or story to share).  Thanks!
