I am so happy that I was given the opportunity to try out this Honeywell Vicks Cool Mist GermFree Humidifier!  I deal with so many allergies year-round that this was the best humidifier for me.  The last time I had one was when I was a child for many years and then I didn't use one as the allergies seemed to clear up with the use of medication.  After being married I wanted to use more natural ways to ease my allergies and that is when I was able to receive (for free with the intended purpose of writing a review) this machine!  It did wonders for me all winter long.  I will need it again in the summer-fall when the Santa Ana winds come to the beach.  The air is filled with dirt and sand that just blows around all day and night.

I love how big the tank is. It will last all night and through the next day (running it periodically, not constantly) and it is really easy to fill with a large handle to help you carry it.

I also love that it plugs into the wall and then has an off setting, low, med, and high settings as well. The high really gets things going and the low one doesn’t seem like it does much. The medium one is what I run most of the time.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

A humidifier is a household appliance that increases humidity (moisture) in a single room or in the entire house. There are point-of-use humidifiers, which are commonly used to humidify a single room, and whole-house or furnace humidifiers, which connect to a home's HVAC system to provide humidity to the entire house.

The most common humidifier, an "evaporative", "cool mist", or "wick humidifier", consists of just a few basic parts: a reservoir, wick and fan.

The wick is a filter that absorbs water from the reservoir and provides a larger surface area for it to evaporate from. The fan is adjacent to the wick and blows air onto the wick to aid in the evaporation of the water. Evaporation from the wick is dependent on relative humidity. A room with low humidity will have a higher evaporation rate compared to a room with high humidity. Therefore, this type of humidifier is self-regulating: As the humidity of the room increases, the water vapor output naturally decreases. These wicks become moldy if they are not dried out completely between fillings, and become filled with mineral deposits over time. They regularly need rinsing or replacement—if this does not happen, air cannot pass through them, and the humidifier stops humidifying the area it is in and the water in the tank remains at the same level.

When winter hits, people go inside for warmth and turn on their furnaces. The artificial heat does more than warm a room. It dries out the room. Humidifiers add moisture to the air, making the room more comfortable.
Everyone, young, old, male and female, will at some point in their lives, have problems breathing through their nose. These breathing problems could be related to a medical condition that requires medication or even surgery. The breathing problems could be related to something simple, such as dry air. Either way, for most people, it seems that the nose stuffiness worsens at night.

How Humidifiers Work:

  1. Moistens Dry Skin

    • Your skin loses moisture when the air is dry. You already know this if you have eczema, as your flareups are probably worse in the winter, when the furnace is on. Place a humidifier in the room or rooms you use most frequently to keep your skin supple and any eczema symptoms minimal.

    Unplugs the Nose

    • Running a humidifier at night can alleviate your stuffy nose during the winter and even eliminate the nosebleeds caused by dry air. Artificial heat dries out the nasal passages. A humidifier puts moisture back in the air, giving your nose the conditioning it needs.

    Saves Money

    • A humid home feels warmer than a home with dry air. On average, a home that is running its furnace has an interior humidity of 20 percent. If you move up the humidity to 40 percent, you will feel warmer. This means that you can turn your heater down and see a smaller utility bill next month.

    Eases Cold Symptoms

    • Winter means cold and flu season, and one of the worst parts of a cold is the stuffy nose and tickling cough that keeps you up at night. Eucalyptus, or menthol, is a natural decongestant. Placing three to nine drops of eucalyptus essential oil in your humidifier tank will diffuse this healing plant's scent into the room and relieve your cold symptoms, giving you a better night's sleep without the use of drugs.

I plan to add to this review at the end of fall to share how I survived through the Santa Ana winds and allergies.

The giveaway is just below here.   All questions need to be answered, they are all mandatory.  Anyone who omits an answer will not be entered into the giveaway.  Thank you!

The importance of blogging and tips for blogging (SHARED)

Blogs have become the poor man’s website and for good reason. The best thing about a blog is that it is free. Sites like Blogger and WordPress have provided excellent services for people to create websites with ease. But with all of the blogs out on the net, how do you make yours stand out? There are a few methods that work extremely well, and then there are a few methods that don’t work at all.

Creating an online blog is a great way for anybody to get the word out about his or her opinions or online services they can provide.

I'm a make up artist and so I talk a lot about make up from various places and how to do certain looks and match them with clothes!  I'm a clothes-horse!

I'm an eclectic blogger but there are topics that I write about more than others.

The first thing you are going to want to do when creating a blog is picking your niche. A niche is the most important aspect of how successful you are going to be. If you’re going to be writing a blog about web hosting, then good luck. Unless you have a great point of view or thousands of reviews on the best web hosting sites on the Internet, you’re going to find it hard to rank high in the search engines. When you pick your niche, pick a general topic. Now narrow your general topic to something smaller. Now do it again. Now do it again. Now you are ready for your blog. Having a blog that focuses on one aspect of a topic is the best way to get traffic.

The next thing that you want to do is write everyday. Updating your blog everyday is the best way to get it picked up by the search engines. Search engines like Google and Yahoo index blogs and websites based on their content. If you are updating your blog everyday and are putting more and more original content up, your blog is going to rank high in the search engines.

So you have a blog that has a ton of content and a great niche, but you’re still not seeing any traffic? This is where people get stuck. It’s the all too common tale of somebody with a great product, but no knowledge of how to sell it. This is where one-way linking comes in. As you researched your niche, you probably went though a bunch of discussion forums.

Discussion forums are great because they always rank high in the Google and Yahoo rankings. Join two discussion forums a day and post comments on your topic. They should allow you to link to your blog through your profile. This way when somebody researches your niche, they will see your post and click on your blog.

Article marketing is another way of getting the word out about your blog. Take a couple of the posts that you have published on your blog and re-write them. Now you can submit them to various article directories on the Internet like E zine and Article base. These websites also rank very high in the Google rankings. Just like in the discussion forums, you should be able to post links to your blog from your profile page.

Viral marketing is another way to get an extreme amount of traffic to your website. Sites like Metacafe and Youtube have brought thousands of people’s blogs onto the map. If you enjoy talking about your niche or doing short how-to videos, film a couple of videos and include a link to your blog in the information bracket.

Another great way to build readership to your blog is by giving away free items. You don’t have to have a raffle for a new TV or anything, but you can post downloadable articles, ebooks or software to your blog. This is great because people are always looking to get something for free. When one person gets a free ebook, they are extremely likely to send the link to other people, thus giving you more traffic.

Starting a blog is not an easy task. If you’re looking for something that you can update a couple of times a month and share with friends, then you don’t really need to worry about traffic. But if you’re looking to make some extra money or even a full time income, you are going to need a very high volume of traffic and a decent ranking in Google and other search engines. Blogging is a great way to make additional money online.

The use of viral and article marketing is a proven way to bring you the traffic you need. Posting on discussion forums related to your niche is also a great way to get the word out about your blog. Stay away from e books and online sites that will try to sell you blogging tips. Most of the materials you need can be found through You tube videos, online articles or just a little digging.

Date Night or Family Night or Just for Fun Night/Weekend

John (my husband and best friend) and I found these Monster Rocks on Pinterest and wanted to adapt it to be our own idea and so we are working this coming week on making Patriotic Shells.   I will post the pictures here during the week after the weekend.  We're vacationing and getting this done when we return home on Monday, July 8th 2013.

Monster Rocks are good because they give you time to enjoy your child/ren's creations.  There are no rules, there are all winners and there is self expression.

Here are the directions:

How to Make a Monster Out of a Rock

From , former About.com Guide

Blue Rock Monster Craft
Blue Rock Monster Craft
Sherri Osborn
Follow these directions and make a not-so-scary monster using a rock, paint, and a few craft supplies.

  • Age Guideline: 3 Years and Up
  • Time Required: 30 minutes (Does not include drying time)
The above age and time guidelines are estimates. This project can be modified to suit other ages and may take more or less time depending on your circumstances.

Materials Needed:

  • Rock
  • Paint
  • Wiggle Eyes
  • Pom-pom
  • Craft Glue
  • Paint Brush
  • Scissors
Instructions:
Start out by searching for a rock. The rock can be any size or shape you like, you just might want to make sure it can sit up the way you want it to. Clean the rock and dry it completely.
Paint the rock whatever color you want your monster to be. Bright colors work wonderfully! It may take a few coats of paint. Let the paint dry.

Glue two wiggle eyes onto the head. I think it added a little more character to my monster to use 2 different sized eyes. Use paint to make any other features you want such as a mouth, nostrils, etc. You can also use any other craft supplies you have to make these features. For the monster's hair, I cut a small pom-pom almost in half and glued it to the top of the monster's head.

Or you can use these directions:
 http://www.freekidscrafts.com/rock_monsters-e1962.html

John and I do not have easy access to rocks.  Our beach does not deposit rocks, so we are going to use shells since we live at the beach and so do our neighbors!  After they are done drying we are taking them to our neighbors to give them something patriotic for the month and summer and ready for Labor Day!  Yes, it's horrible to say but that day is coming soon.

The Pinterest article suggested taking the finished products that you have for sharing (Pay It Forward) and have them in a container and allow your child and yourself to place the rocks anywhere except in the middle of a sidewalk or driveway.  You don't want people or pets to be injured by stepping on them or over them.  I love Pay It Forward so I am all for this project.  How about you?  Which way would you paint?  Your child or companion paint?

Thank you for taking the time to learn about a craft and for submitting comments!  The comments are posted after I am able to read them and allow them on the page.  Thanks for your patience!

Day 5

You can help with the 19 firefighters fund for the families of those who lost their lives.

I bought a The Granite Mountain Hotshots Crew tee... and am now sharing the campaign and help it reach its goal!

Funds have been set up for the families of 19 firefighters, including four from Southern California, who were killed while battling a wildfire in Arizona.

Of the 19 men killed, 14 were in their 20s. Many are survived by wives and young children.

Donations can be made to a Chase Bank account No. 987218757; or via check by mail to:
United Phoenix Firefighter’s Association
ATTN: Granite Mountain Donations
61 E. Columbus
Phoenix, AZ 85012

Prescott Fire Department Administration
ATTN: PFFC Granite Mt. Donations
1700 Iron Springs Rd
Prescott, AZ 86305

Donations also can be made online using a PayPal form on the Prescott Firefighter’s Charities website.

“We strive to help the families of the victims,” Tyler Brown said, an intern with the Prescott Police Department who also volunteers with the fire department.

Brown said all proceeds made to the Prescott charities will go directly to the firefighters’ families. Additional charities have been established, though Brown said all proceeds from those may not directly go to the men’s families.

The Wildland Firefighter Foundation, which offers financial and emotional support for the families of fallen and injured wildland firefighters, created a limited-edition T-shirt in honor of the 19 men killed. All proceeds goes to the foundation.

Another organization that offers support for firefighters’ families, the 100 Club, has set up a memorial fund for the Yarnell Fire victims.

Firefighters in Hemet – the hometown of two slain firefighters – donated $2,500 each to the families of Chris MacKenzie, 30, and William Warneke, 25, Steve Standefer, president of the Firefighters Union in Hemet, said.

“We took half the money from our donation fund, which comes completely from the generosity of Hemet citizens, and we, the firefighters, matched the other half,” Sandefer said.
The union was compelled to donate the money to cover the families’ travel expenses to Arizona, Sandefer said.

A memorial service honoring one of the youngest firefighters killed, 21-year-old Kevin Woyjeck, of Seal Beach, is being planned by the Los Angeles County Fire Department, where his father works as a captain. No date has been set yet.
Condolences for the Woyjeck family can be left on a forum, linked here, created by the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Day 4

Wordless Wednesday: Frightened about my dog and the fireworks.

This Wednesday I fear for the dogs whose human companions don't work hard towards taking care of them during the fireworks.

What may be beautiful and sound good to you is often the most frightening experience your dog goes through on a "regular" day.

Every year we are upset at the illegal fireworks that are set off right around our house here at the beach. We get so upset that we are the first people to start sedating their dog (our vet says that there are many that sedate soon before the 4th but we feel like we're alone in this).  This year we started sedating on Friday night, June 29th, 2013 because they get started here in the neighborhood more and more each year.  We have our yearly solution to the fireworks, come
back here on Tuesday, July 9th to read all about it!!

ACE Weight Loss Giveaway

acediet

I have struggled for many years, especially after kids, to lose weight. It has become harder and harder and sometimes I wonder if I will ever have the ability to say "NO" to the fatty, greasy, no good foods! At the beginning of the year, I wrote a post about trying out some new diet and would later blog about the results. That blog post never got posted, because well, quite frankly, it didn't work. In fact, it worked for about 1 or 2 days while the initial "I'm on a new diet" mode kicked in, but after hunger pains set in and my self control took over, the HCG diet was thrown out the window. I spent quite a hefty amount of money on HCG for it to be wasted away sitting up in my medicine cabinet doing nothing. But, I didn't stop there. I've spent months researching products and trying to find the best that will suit me, and my budget. As you all know, weight loss supplements and diet programs are spendy -- and there seems to be very few that offer a trial at a discounted price just so you can try it out and see if it works for you. I was at my wits end and at my heaviest weight in my entire life, and I decided to take a step forward and get rid of the excess weight that has been holding me back all these years, and that is when my friend posted on facebook a picture of her weight loss results after just 1 month of using the ACE Diet Supplement. I knew it sounded too good to be true, but thought $1 a pill for a trial package is good enough for me, and it beats paying $100's of dollars for products that may or may not work. The best part yet, the ACE Weight Loss Supplement distributors sell trial packs of the diet supplement in 2-ct packages and if you are lucky to have a distributor in your city, you save yourself the $8.25 shipping costs! The trials, unfortunately, cannot be bought via the ACE website unless you decide to sign up as a Preferred Customer with Auto-Ship every month. However, bottles of 60ct are only $60.

I tried the ACE Diet, 14-day trial diet supplement for $1 a capsule

As with any diet supplement on the market, there runs the risk of possible side effects. While the ACE Weight Loss Supplement and Work Out Booster is said to be All Natural, keep in mind that there still may be some possible side effects as well, especially if you are taking medication and/or have health conditions. I experienced mild anxiety after taking it consistently, however, the anxiety is not something that was new to me. It was a previous condition that I was quite aware of and reduced my dosage accordingly and am still continuing to lose weight at a steady pace. Some people may need to ask their doctor for permission to use the product.

I lost 17lbs in 10 days!

While taking the supplement, I noticed in increase in my energy and the self control to not over indulge in the delicious sweet treats and fatty foods that are definitely a no-no when trying to lose weight. Rule of thumb is to not weigh yourself daily, but I did, because I just couldn't believe that there was a "miracle pill" that could actually make me actually lose weight. I averaged 1 to 2 lbs a day loss with moderate exercise and limited caloric intake. Now I know you're thinking, well I can do that without some miracle pill. But truth be told, I spent a good portion trying to figure that out, if I did everything the same as when I was taking the supplement if I would lose any weight. In fact, I didn't. I gained weight without the supplement. There's a special synergistic blend of ingredients formulated in the ACE Weight Loss Diet Supplement that help aide in consistent weight loss and it definitely works! It works so well that I actually was worried that I was losing weight too fast, and that is when I decided to "go it alone" and received a negative outcome. However, now that I have been taking the ACE Weight Loss Supplement again, my weight is just melting off and I have more self control to say "NO" to all the foods that will jeopordize my weight loss efforts. ACE is definitely not for everyone, but for those that have a lot of weight to lose, and are ready to commit to a low-calorie, no alcohol or soda diet, drink lots and lots of water, engage in moderate exercise (10-15 minutes a day) then this is the perfect supplement for you. In fact, even if you aren't ready to commit to moderate exercise, as soon as you start taking the supplement you will get that boost of energy that tells your brain to get up and move! Be advised, this is NOT a safe diet to use while you are breast feeding and is not recommended for persons under the age of 17 or persons with a caffeine sensitivity.

No More Cravings, No More Hunger Pains & I Have ENERGY!

That's right, the ACE Weight Loss Supplement will completely deminish your hunger pains so you eat less and crave less, increase your energy, and help you focus on being healthy. Instead of going for the chocolate cake, you'll actually WANT to eat an apple instead! It's pretty amazing stuff, but as with any other diet supplement out there, be advised that there may be adverse reactions if you have any underlying health issues, but there are a lot more pros to this supplement then there are cons. There have been reports of people using this supplement that had to be on blood pressure medication and after starting the ACE diet, they didn't need the medication anymore. Or there's been reports of people with fibromyalgia that no longer suffer from pain. "ACE- Appetite Control and Energy dietary supplement is a synergistic blend of ingredients including Dark Cocoa and Natural Caffeine, plus additional key ingredients. One or two capsules will turn-off your hunger switch and kick you into gear! With Natural ACE you will reduce your appetite, eat less and be energized throughout the day. The combination of reduced caloric intake as well as increased energy and activity leads to successful weight loss! Achieve your goal with Natural ACE." The ingredients in Natural ACE are: Vitamin B6 Cocoa Powder Chromium Spirulina Green Tea Extract Natural Sourced Caffeine

Here is my own personal before/after photo
Whatever the reason may be, it is time to come to terms and say good-bye to all the unwanted pounds and get ready to get your skinny on. The only serious side effect of this diet that I have come to find out; you will have to buy a new wardrobe because none of your clothes will fit. So now, the fun part. I'm going to GIVE 10 lucky winners a free (2-ct) trial sample of the ACE Weight Loss Supplement to try it out for yourselves and see how amazing this product really is! Green Matcha Tea Gotcha!

What is that GREEN POWDER?  It's not something the HULK puts on his face.  It's GREEN MATCHA TEA!

Why Matcha Tea?
Matcha is stone ground tea leaves. When you drink matcha tea, you ingest the whole leaf and receive 100% of the nutrients of the tea. One serving of matcha green tea is the nutritional equivalent of ten cups of regular brewed green tea in a tea bag.

Matcha is new in the United States and still difficult to find in grocery stores. However, it is gaining recognition in popular coffee shops and smoothie bars which offer green tea lattes and matcha shots. Many customers are looking matcha to make these addictive and expensive beverages at home.

Matcha
Matcha Tea
Type: Green

Other names: 抹茶, "fine powder tea"
Origin: Japan

Quick description: Stone ground Japanese green tea

Matcha (抹茶?, pronounced [mat.tɕa][1]), also spelled maccha, refers to finely milled or fine powder green tea. The Japanese tea ceremony centers on the preparation, serving, and drinking of matcha. In modern times, matcha has also come to be used to flavour and dye foods such as mochi and soba noodles, green tea ice cream and a variety of wagashi (Japanese confectionery). Matcha is a fine ground, powdered, high quality green tea and not the same as tea powder or green tea powder.[citation needed]
Blends of matcha are given poetic names called chamei ("tea names") either by the producing plantation, shop or creator of the blend, or by the grand master of a particular tea tradition. When a blend is named by the grand master of some tea ceremony lineage, it becomes known as the master's konomi, or favored blend.

History

In Tang Dynasty China (618–907), tea leaves were steamed and formed into tea bricks for storage and trade. The tea was prepared by roasting and pulverizing the tea, and decocting the resulting tea powder in hot water, adding salt.[2] In the Song Dynasty (960–1279), the method of making powdered tea from steam-prepared dried tea leaves, and preparing the beverage by whipping the tea powder and hot water together in a bowl became popular.[3] Preparation and consumption of powdered tea was formed into a ritual by Zen (Chan) Buddhists. The earliest Chan monastic code in existence, entitled Chanyuan qinggui (禪苑清規, Rules of Purity for the Chan Monastery, 1103), describes in detail the etiquette for tea ceremonies.[3][4]
A bowl of matcha on a black lacquered tray with a traditional sweet
Zen Buddhism and the Chinese methods of preparing powdered tea were brought to Japan in 1191 by the monk Eisai. Powdered tea is no longer popular in China, but in Japan it continued to be an important item at Zen monasteries, and became highly appreciated by others in the upper echelons of society during the 14th through 16th centuries.

Production

Matcha is made from shade-grown tea leaves also used to make gyokuro. The preparation of matcha starts several weeks before harvest up to 20 days, when the tea bushes are covered to prevent direct sunlight.[5] This slows down growth, turns the leaves a darker shade of green and causes the production of amino acids. Only the finest tea buds are hand picked. After harvesting, if the leaves are rolled out before drying as usual, the result will be gyokuro (jade dew) tea. However, if the leaves are laid out flat to dry, they will crumble somewhat and become known as tencha (碾茶). Tencha can then be de-veined, de-stemmed, and stone ground to the fine, bright green, talc-like powder known as matcha.[6]
It can take up to one hour to grind 30 grams of matcha.[citation needed]
Note that only ground tencha qualifies as matcha, and other powdered green teas, such as powdered sencha, are known as konacha (粉茶, lit. "powder tea").
The flavour of matcha is dominated by its amino acids.[citation needed] The highest grades of matcha have more intense sweetness and deeper flavour than the standard or coarser grades of tea harvested later in the year.[citation needed]

Grades

Matcha is generally expensive compared to other forms of tea, although its price depends on its quality. Grades of matcha are defined by many factors.

Location on the tea bush

Where leaves destined for tencha are picked on the tea (Camellia sinensis) bush is vital.
The very top should have developing leaves that are soft and supple. This gives a finer texture to higher grades of matcha. More developed leaves are harder, giving lower grades a sandy texture. The better flavour is a result of the plant sending the majority of its nutrients to the growing leaves.

Treatment before processing

Tencha leaves are traditionally dried outside in the shade and are never exposed to direct sunlight. However drying has mostly moved indoors. Quality matcha is vibrantly green also as a result of this treatment.

Stone grinding

Without the right equipment and technique, matcha can become "burnt" and suffer degraded quality. Typically in Japan matcha is stone ground to a fine powder through the use of specially designed granite stone mills.[7]

Oxidation

Oxidation is also a factor in determining grade. Matcha exposed to oxygen can easily become compromised. Oxidized matcha has a distinctive hay-like smell and a dull brownish green colour.

Traditional preparation

A three-piece set for making matcha, including a whisk (chasen), bowl (chawan) and spoon (chashaku)
There are two main ways of preparing matcha: thick (濃茶 koicha?) and thin (薄茶 usucha?).
Prior to use, the matcha is often forced through a sieve in order to break up clumps. There are special sieves available for this purpose, which are usually stainless steel and combine a fine wire mesh sieve and a temporary storage container. A special wooden spatula is used to force the tea through the sieve, or a small, smooth stone may be placed on top of the sieve and the device shaken gently.
If the sieved matcha is to be served at a Japanese tea ceremony it will then be placed into a small tea caddy known as a chaki. Otherwise, it can be scooped directly from the sieve into a tea bowl.
A small amount of matcha is placed into the bowl, traditionally using a bamboo scoop called a chashaku, then a modicum of hot (not boiling: 70–85°C or 158–185°F[8]) water is added. The mixture is then whisked to a uniform consistency, using a bamboo whisk known as a chasen. There must be no lumps left in the liquid, and no ground tea should remain on the sides of the bowl. Because matcha can be bitter, it is traditionally served with a small wagashi sweet[9] (intended to be consumed before drinking), and without added milk or sugar. It is usually considered that 40 g of matcha will provide for 20 bowls of usucha or 10 bowls of koicha:[10]
Usucha, or thin tea, is prepared with approximately 1.75 grams[11] (amounting to 1.5 heaping chashaku scoop, or about half a teaspoon) of matcha and approximately 75 ml (2.5 oz) of hot water per serving, which can be whisked to produce froth or not, according to the drinker's preference (or to the traditions of the particular school of tea). Usucha creates a lighter and slightly more bitter tea.
Koicha, or thick tea, requires significantly more matcha (usually about doubling the powder and halving the water): approximately 3.75 grams[12] (amounting to 3 heaping chashaku scoops, or about one teaspoon) of matcha and approximately 40 ml (1.3 oz) of hot water per serving, or as many as six teaspoons to 3/4 cup of water. Because the resulting mixture is significantly thicker (about like liquid honey), blending it requires a slower, stirring motion which does not produce foam. Koicha is normally made with more expensive matcha from older tea trees (exceeding thirty years) and thus actually produces a milder and sweeter tea than usucha; it is served almost exclusively as part of Japanese tea ceremonies.

Other uses

A matcha cake
It is used in castella, manjū, and monaka; as a topping for kakigori; mixed with milk and sugar as a drink; and mixed with salt and used to flavour tempura in a mixture known as matcha-jio. It is also used as flavouring in many Western-style chocolates, candy, and desserts, such as cakes and pastries (including Swiss rolls and cheesecake), cookies, pudding, mousse, and green tea ice cream. The Japanese snack Pocky has a matcha-flavoured version. Matcha may also be mixed into other forms of tea. For example it is added to genmaicha to form what is called matcha-iri genmaicha (literally roasted brown rice and green tea with added matcha).
The use of matcha in modern drinks has also spread to North American cafés, such as Starbucks which introduced "Green Tea Lattes" and other matcha flavored drinks after matcha became successful in their Japan store locations. As in Japan, it has become integrated into lattes, iced drinks, milkshakes, and smoothies. A number of cafes have introduced lattes and iced drinks using matcha powder. It has also been incorporated into alcoholic beverages such as liqueurs.

Basic matcha teaware

The equipment required for the making of matcha are:
  • Tea bowl (茶碗, chawan)
large enough to whisk the fine powder tea around 120 millilitres (4.06 fl oz)
  • Tea whisk (茶筅, chasen)
a bamboo whisk with fine bristles to whisk or whip the tea foam
  • Tea spoon (茶杓, chashaku)
(also called tea scoop) a bamboo spoon to measure the powder tea into the tea bowl. Not the same as a Western teaspoon.
  • Tea caddy (棗, natsume)
container for the matcha powder tea
  • Tea cloth (茶巾, chakin)
small cotton cloth for cleaning tea ware during the tea ceremony

Health benefits

Matcha can now be found in numerous health food products ranging from cereal to energy bars. In 2003, researchers from the University of Colorado found that the concentration of the antioxidant EGCG available from drinking matcha is at least three times greater than the amount of EGCG available from other commercially available green teas.[13] Matcha is also said to boost metabolism[citation needed] and help reduce cholesterol levels when it is drunk regularly.[citation needed] The aforementioned health benefits of matcha green tea can largely be attributed to the fact that the whole tea leaf is ingested, as opposed to just the steeped water in the case of 'bagged' green teas. This means that it delivers a much higher potency of catechins, chlorophyll, and antioxidants.[14] By weight, matcha contains more antioxidants than blueberries, wolfberries, pomegranates, orange juice and spinach.[15]
There is evidence from clinical studies that suggests that theanine, when consumed by drinking Japanese green teas,[16] may help to reduce or moderate mental stress responses.[17]
